Abstract
A bacteriologic study was conducted to examine the sterilization effect of F-gen. We cultured nine species of bacteriae and sterilized them in the F-gen box. Seven species were not cultured after 30 minute contact with F-gen. But Enterobacter and Candida were sterilized after 1 and 2-hour contact, respectively. And when comparing with the sterilization effect of chlorhexidine, F-gen sterilization required about 20 minutes more contact. With these results, it is concluded that F-gen needs more or less longer duration of sterilization than chlorhexidine. But, when the instruments are sterilized with chlorhexidine which is liquid, they must be bathed. In result there may be a damage to the instruments with long term chlorhexidine sterilization. In contrast, F-gen sterilization is a gaseous method and there is a less possibility of damage to the instruments than chlorhexidine sterilization. So we think F-gen sterilization may be an another safe and useful sterilization method.
